StopCOVID NI App
Posted on 23 August 2020
The Public Health Agency has released an app called StopCOVID NI. It is part of the programme of testing and tracing where people who have been in contact with a person who tests positive for COVID-19 are contacted by the Public Health Agency so that they know to isolate themselves and prevent the further spread of this virus.
What does the app do?
The app makes use of special functionality introduced by Google and Apple in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. It uses Bluetooth to send an anonymous message to other nearby devices that have the app installed. If someone tests positive for COVID-19, the service can notify anyone who has been near them and thus would have been at risk of infection.
If you are notified by the app (or the Public Health Agency) that you may have been exposed to coronavirus, you should isolate yourself and your household at home and follow the advice provided. You may also be advised to get a test for coronavirus if you have symptoms.
How do I get the app?
The app can be downloaded from the Google Play store for Android devices, or the Apple App Store for iOS devices.
